Sisterhood Schmooze
As I write this article for the Chai Lights, June, 2006, Sisterhood Schmooze,
I realize that it is my last 'official' article as your Sisterhood President.
In the next bulletin, your new authors may have a different name for the column,
and a different style.
My Sisterhood Presidency has been a wonderful five years, full of education,
new friends, new situations, learning new organizational skills, learning
politics and diplomacy, finances, budgeting (time and money), exploring Judaism,
writing d'var Torah, leading events and services, etc. Sisterhood has been
a constant 'presence' in my mind and in my heart during these years, and my
promise to you is to stay involved, so that it will not become an 'absence'
in my mind nor in my heart.
At the May Sisterhood meeting, we elected the new slate of officers. Congratulations
to Sindy Alson and Linda Ourach, who will be Co-Presidents. Arlana Stewart
will be Vice President for Membership; Phyllis Farrow will be Vice President
for Holidays. Corresponding Secretary will be Saretta Gurss, and Treasurer
will be Sylvia Silberman. We are still in need of Recording Secretary and
Historian, so, please let me know if you are interested. I have received comments
from people that welcoming phone calls would be appreciated for new members
of Sisterhood, and regarding events. If you would like to be the one to organize
a phone tree, let me know-we can always use more volunteers.
Our highlight in May was the Sisterhood Shabbat Service. The music shared
with us by Jonathan Pevsner and Julie Silver provided all in attendance with
an incredibly spiritual evening. I want to thank both Jonathan and Julie for
their incredible talent and stage presence, as well as those who participated,
those who donated for the Oneg, and those who were part of the wonderful Woman
of Valor plaque that I received.
There are so many to thank for support during my tenure as TBI Sisterhood
President. I need to thank the current and past Sisterhood Boards and chairs
for their constant support - Arlana, Arlene, Sylvia, Leann, Linda O, Sindy,
Saretta, Dorea, Phyllis, Rita, Millie, Bluma, and others. I know I have inadvertently
left off names, but you know who you are! Thanks to the Rabbi for his advice
and support, to Andrea for putting out those emails, and to Roy and his staff
for working all the events we have held.
I would also like to thank the TBI Presidents I have served with, Barry Price,
Jerry Mann, and Dewey Slater. You three have always been big supporters of
Sisterhood and its mission, and your support has been greatly appreciated.
Our big event for June is the Cool-Down Summer Cooking Class- it will be held
on Monday, June 5 (note date change from original plan) at 6:00pm, at the
home of Benta Fries. Last year's cooking class was incredible, so please join
us.
Please join us for the cooking class; it should be lots of fun! Please think
about what you can do to make Sisterhood more of a presence in your mind,
and volunteer. The new membership flyers will be coming out in late August
or early September, please join and become a part of this Sisterhood. You
will be glad you did. Have a safe and healthy summer!
