Thanks Roberta
Man, if you missed the Sisterhood Shabbat, you really missed a show.
Jonathan and Julie Silver performed beautifully together, and Roberta
Bavin and her crew put together a great service. In addition, Roberta
delivered a wonderfully thoughtful D’var Torah. As you probably know,
Roberta is stepping down from the Sisterhood presidency, sort of. It
seems that next year she will be one part of a three part presidency
with Sindy Alson and Linda Ourach. But there was plenty of thanks for
Roberta’s five and a half year term of office (yes that was five and
a half years!). What a feat! All the Fall warm ups and the Summer cool
downs, the yard sales, the breakfasts, the onegs, the camperships funded,
the meals provided to congregants is distress and on and on and on.
A great job, Roberta, thanks.
Thanks to Brotherhood and Mike Waxman and his crew for a great (as
usual) Mother’s Day Brunch. Mike will pass the torch to David Sicherman
after a hugely successful year in which not only the usual number of
camperships was funded, but major contributions were also made to the
Temple grounds and a big boost was passed along to the Temple music
budget for next year (a similar contribution was also made by Sisterhood
as well).
Give Mark Alson and the Shabbaton committee a pat on the back for this
year’s edition, a sell-out. Rabbi Ourach arranged for Rabbi Kushner
as guest speaker, and about a 50% larger than usual group of congregants
turned out for an enlightening weekend.
A great time was had by all the “long time members” who attended the
Legacy Shabbat arranged by Program Vice-president Howard Garfinkel.
There was a very big turn out and Adrienne Jacobson took us on a fabulous
tour of Fresno history. Next year, perhaps we’ll get a big turn out
of newer members to meet those who built this place.
Keep and eye out for the weekends when Jonathan, Julie Silver, Josh Winston
and Doug Kotler perform. Howard Garfinkel has done a wonderful job securing
musical accompaniment for the last several months and through next year
and you won’t want to miss what he has put together.
Dewey Slater,
President
